The Month In Grime – October

Well what a busy month it’s been. October has seen a really high volume of quality grime releases, both from inside the UK and outside. Here are our picks for this month:

Sir Spyro – Topper Top (Featuring Teddy Bruckshot, Lady Chann & Killa P) (Deep Medi)

Well, obviously right? Since the track was first played by Sir Spyro on his Rinse FM show, everybody has wanted to get hold of this tune. Featuring three of my favourite vocalists at the moment, the title track is likely to go down in the history books of grime. The vinyl release (which features the instrumental and the renowned ‘Tekkers’) has already sold out, but the digital copy is still available to purchase online!

Policy – Slink (Southpoint)

The latest release from Brighton’s Southpoint imprint comes from the ever unpredictable Policy. As a whole, ‘Slink’ incorporates a large range of styles and themes, with Noble and Glume on remix duties. The EP has seen a lot of support and has shot up the JunoDownload Deep Dubstep charts. Make sure you check out the release here:

Ghost House Records:

Next up we have a Ghosthouse double header. Spooky’s imprint is easily one of the most consistent labels working within the grime scene at the minute. This month they let loose two releases, the first coming from the ever ready Sirpixalot. The former BeatBoss champion is known for his warrish production style and his latest EP ‘War Time’ shows just how epic grime production can be. Incredible rolling drum arrangements crossed with Sirpixalot’s unique style of melodic synthesis really shine through the whole project.

The second of the two Ghost House releases this month comes from Natsirk. As a new name to many, he has wasted no time in getting his own production style and sound down to a T which is easily demonstrated on the ‘Cosmic’ EP. His sound has everything grime needs, subtle bass arrangement combined with sharp and impactful orchestral patterns and stabs and high energy drum patterns. Make sure you check out both of the above EP’s via the Ghost House SoundCloud below:

Razor – Ungodly

As one of our favourite upcoming vocalists, we felt it only right to give you all a heads up on his latest track. ‘Ungodly’ is available to stream now via Razor’s own SoundCloud page, and with production from Filthy Gears & Beanzo, it’s one we think you should be keeping an eye on!

Dubzta – RedRum EP (Knowledge Is Power)

Is Dubzta the number one grime export out of Wales? We definitely think so. His latest EP comes courtesy of our friends at Knowledge Is Power who work tirelessly to help promote and push grime music from around the country. The EP itself is available for free download and features three original tracks from Dubzta, as well as two remixes and a collaboration with Beanzo. The whole project is certainly worth the download and you can do that as well as stream via the SoundCloud link below:

Dutty Tingz – Wardub Master EP (Project Allout)

Project Allout (PAR) have one of the most varied rosters within the grime scene, now expanding as far as Russia. Dutty Tingz is the latest producer to be added to the line up with his debut PAR release entitled ‘Wardub Master’. Alongside CreepN00M the pair have been making serious waves within the Grime scene racking up a considerable amount of radio airtime. This EP demonstrates how big grime has become, it’s not just a UK sound anymore, it’s truly worldwide.

Boxed003 – Mr Mitch, AS.IF KID, JT The Goon, Sirpixalot

The London-based movement have gone from strength to strength this year, with their Rinse FM residency being one of the most popular grime shows out there. Their most recent vinyl release sees the likes of Mr Mitch, AS.IF KID, JT The Goon and Sirpixalot come together to make up an awesome four-track vinyl. Boxed have always prided themselves in their variation, inviting so many styles of grime into their release catalogue and it certainly shows with this EP.

Sorrow – Brawler (White Peach)

White Peach is another label that has had a super consistent year. Every release they have put together so far has landed with an instant impact. The latest artist to release on the imprint is Bristol’s Sorrow, and what a release it is. ‘Brawler’ encompasses everything people want from grime in 2016. Incredibly high energy levels, flawless production, chilling melodic leads and pulsating bass patterns. Sorrow is somewhat of an under-rated force, this EP release is sure to turn the heads that have been sleeping. The full vinyl release will be available from 28/11/16, but the previews are available to stream via the White Peach SoundCloud below:

Various – KXVU Presents (Southpoint)

So now it’s time for my completely unjustified self-plug, but to be honest this month I’m far from ashamed. The next release we have lined up at Southpoint is the first in our ‘Producer Presents’ series which features fantastic tracks from some of my favourite grime and bass producers in the scene at the minute. I would write out my favourites, but I’d end up writing out the whole list, so I’m going to write out the whole list. Full artist list includes Aerotonin, Bushbaby, Drax, Eclypse, KXVU, Neffa T, Noble, Pavv, Rapture4D, Polonis, Riknor, JFO, Scullious, Tengu and Mofaux. The whole release is something I’m super proud of, so check it out if you can!

That’s all for this month. We have heard plenty of exciting releases coming up in November, so check back soon for the next edition of ‘The Month In Grime’.
