As the summer months draw to a close, and the festival season with them, it can be tempting to let the autumn blues take over. That would be premature however, as there is one event which may have slipped under your radar. Breakout Festival, Brighton’s first outdoor metal festival, will see the likes of Skindred, Funeral For a Friend and The Blackout descending on the south coast’s favourite city next month. Taking place on the 27th September at Brighton Racecourse, the day long gig also gives aspiring artists the chance to perform alongside the major headliners.

As heavy rock’s answer to Brighton’s Shakedown festival, it will be interesting to see what size a crowd Breakout manages to pull in. Since the closure of Engine Rooms several years ago the heavy metal scene in Brighton has been in need of a revival; perhaps Breakout will provide it with a much needed boost.

We caught the main headliner, Skindred, at this years Redfest where they performed an electrifying set. Welsh post-hardcore act The Blackout were another highlight of that weekend, and they join fellow compatriots Funeral for a Friend in an all star line up. Electronic rock outfit The Qemists and alternative metallers InMe are just a few of the other names performing at one of 2014’s essential events for any Brighton rock  music fan.

Lesser well known acts Everest Bigfoot, Chasing Dragons and KILL THE KING have also been selected to play alongside the main headliners, after winning an online competition. You can view the full lineup here.

Tickets cost £30, and are available here. We look forward to seeing you there!
