Knucks started producing music before he was rapping, even making beats for people like Fekky. So what does it take for him to hand over the reins? Two grammy nominations can’t hurt, which is exactly what producer WizzyWow brings to the table. The result can be heard on new track “Cannes”, hopefully, the first of many collaborations between the two.
“Cannes” moves outside of the jazz and soul inspired backing track heard on Knucks’ previous efforts like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, with a minimalist backing beat and synth line giving the North West Londoners vocals plenty of room to breathe.
As always, the rapper’s inimitable style shines through, with clever metaphors like “Tears in they eyes/I’m the spice in the peppersoup” sticking in the mind and complementing Knucks’ distinctive flow.
“Cannes” is a track that both WizzyWow and Knucks can be proud of, but Knucks’ ability to stand alongside a name as big as WizzyWow’s and not get lost is a real testament to his ability. The term “rising star” is thrown around a lot, but it’s a title Knucks deserves. Expect great things going forward.
