Kasket – Where Is Alice? – Review

It has been a long time in the making, but Soapbox favourite, Kasket, finally returns to our iTunes playlists with his fantastic new release named ‘Where Is Alice?’. Since moving  to Berlin from the outskirts of Brighton, the dynamic musician has spent a lot of time locked away developing his sound, and the result is quite beautiful.

The EP kicks off with the title track. ‘Where Is Alice’ really encompasses everything that Kasket thrives to release into his music. Glitchy robotic synths are let loose to roam freely amongst a mix loaded with audible treasures. Kasket’s percussive processing is stunning and when this is layered underneath the glitchy magnificence of the higher pitched synths, the result is breathtaking.

Each of the three tracks is a masterpiece in its own right. Due to Kasket’s ever developing production pallet, there is no telling what he is going to pull out of the bag next, which is why I was so surprised by the direction he took on ‘Jabberwocky’. The Amazonian-like percussive rhythms walk hand in hand with yet more masterfully crafted electronic instrumentation. I’m reminded of exploration and perhaps that is the message Kasket is trying to portray, that he is always exploring through sound.

The EP finishes off just as strongly as it begun, although in a slightly more unusual domain. In ‘The Forgiven’ Kasket’s fantastic drumming ability has clearly come into play whilst composing this track, as layers upon layers of high passed drums descend over layers of airy synthesizer melodies. It is a strange place to end the EP, but does pretty accurately sum up Kasket’s attitude towards music.

This is a fantastic EP from the Berlin-based producer and we highly recommend you take a listen via the SoundCloud player below and click HERE to purchase.
