With legendary acts such as The Stone Roses and Bon Jovi, Isle of Wight 2013 is the ideal way to kick start the summer. With a plethora of acts spread across the Main Stage, the BT Infinity Big Top and the Dance Tent, there is endless entertainment for everyone all weekend. Tickets for the weekend (13TH-16TH June) are still available, click here to see what’s on offer!
Here’s a stage-by-stage breakdown of the acts we think you MUST see:
MAIN STAGE: The Stone Roses will be headlining the first full day (Friday) on the main stage, the legendary rock band have started touring since they got back together after their hiatus that lasted over a decade! This simply cannot be missed, whether you listen to them regularly or not, their legendary status and their insane live performances should be enough to tempt anyone over to the main stage on Friday night. However, there are some other great acts to be seen on the Main Stage on Friday, Palma Violets for example, who have been labelled as NME’s “best new band” two years running.
Saturday will be headlined by The Killers. Their showing at this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival is part of their “Battle Born World Tour”. Led by Brandon Flowers, they have been sending crowds crazy since they started the tour last year in their native USA. Having released a new album last year, you can expect to hear some of their newer material on stage, as well as the classics like “Smile Like You Mean It” and “Mr Brightside” – the latter of which was named ‘Song of the Decade’ three years ago. Also playing on the Saturday will be singer-songwriter Willy Mason, The Maccabees and Bloc Party, who will be showing off some new material just like they did on their North American tour earlier this year.
The illustrious Bon Jovi will headline the Main Stage on Sunday. This year the band are celebrating their 30th anniversary after forming in 1983. They’re currently halfway through their “Because We Can” tour and have already played to over 600,000 people since kicking off the tour earlier this year. Another renowned band will be performing on the Sunday: The Boomtown Rats, who reformed earlier this year.
BT INFINITY BIG TOP: For those of you who come early, Happy Mondays, The Farm, The Blockheads and Lez Zeppelin will be playing a show exclusively for Thursday night campers (on the Thursday, obviously).
Rizzle Kicks will be warming up their summer by headlining the Big Top on Friday. The duo, who are also headlining Shakedown later this year, are known to put on a fantastic live show which features a fairly jazzy setup. Their new album, which is rumoured to feature Pharrell, will be released later this year in September, so a few surprises/new material might be in store for their set. Some other big names in the Big Top include T’Pau, FUN., and Ellie Goulding. The latter of which has already performed at the same event a Beyonce, Jessie J and Timbaland this month!
Saturday is when the Big Top gets really lively. Devlin, Little Mix, Lawson, Willy Moon and Crystal Seagulls will be warming up the crowd before Bedlam present “The Big Top Takeover” which will include Monsta, Friction (who is currently one of the best DJs in the country), Andy C and Zane Lowe. The Bedlam Takeover will be completed when Sub Focus enter the fray to headline the show. Having just released a new single, Sub Focus has a huge year ahead of him, releasing an album and headlining at Reading and Leeds this year!
Sunday will roll back the years for some attendees as Blondie take the headline slot. With a number of tours, festivals and album releases under their belts, headlining a festival will be second nature to them. Despite some members being in their sixties, they’re still capable of some lively performances!
THE DANCE TENT: There’s another treat for the early comers: Jaguar Skills, A-Trak, Grandmaster Flash, Ms Dynamite, DJ EZ, Gav Foord & BitR8 will be performing in The Dance Tent to get you through the night for when the festival really kicks off on the Friday!
Friday will be headlined by Example (+DJ Wire). Example is coming off the back of his UK tour, which ended in March. He’s currently working on an album which is due for release next year. He mentioned that he’ll be playing two tracks from his new album during his festival performances this summer, so hopefully there’ll be a few snippets on show this Friday! Some of the other acts on Friday include Faith FX, Madeon, Benga and BitR8 (again).
Alex Metric will be headlining The Dance Tent on Saturday night. Renowned for his remixes and live shows, Alex Metric should have no trouble keeping the crowd happy this weekend. In support will be the likes of Nikki Beatnik, Thick As Thieves and Ghostpoet, who released his latest single two months ago.
Damian Lazarus is highly regarded as one of the best DJs in the world, so those of you in The Dance Tent on Sunday are in for a sick night. Lee Foss will be taking the stage before him, another fantastic DJ who is more than capable of sending crowds crazy! House-heads will be happy too, with Mosca, Huxley and MK all ready to take the stage on Sunday.
With an impressive line-up, as expected, and a number of alternative sources of entertainment, including the Cabaret Club, Isle of Wight 2013 should be a fantastic weekend! Remember, you can get tickets by clicking here!
See you there!
