This coming Monday the Old Market in Hove will play host a unique indie/funk/jazz guitar fusion gig. Canadian singer songwriter Mac Demarco has recently risen to mainstream success with his third (and brilliant) album “Salad Days”.
Releasing music since 2009 under the name “Make Out Video Tape”, Mac blends elements of indie, funk and jazz to create one of the most unique sounds in the scene to date. Often being labelled “Jizz Jazz”, his sound is a cross between 70’s porno and a sunny afternoon at SXSW; a sound that will fit in very nicely in the alternative Brighton music scene.
Currently on tour supporting “Salad Days”, an album that has been getting a lot of commercial success, Mac is getting a 9/10 from NME and an 8.5 from Pitchfork (among others). He will also most likely be playing some of his bigger hits from his previous album “Two”.
Having a reputation for being a brilliant live performer; Mac blends alcohol fuelled energy with some calmer more soulful moments. Brighton promises to be one of his best gigs of the summer, and certainly not one to miss.
