Dirty Dike: ‘Return of the Twat’ – Review

This is the first major project from Dirty Dike since Constant Dikestar, despite smaller EP’s including the Sloshpot EP. As the last album Dike put out was a major success, blasting his name across the UK Hip Hop scene quite phenomenally, we were keen to see what he would do with his next project.

As always with Dike, there is a really interesting and humorous use of introduction sampling, as well as very creative use of vocal samples over a lot of the hooks and chorus blocks. It seems to be a theme with a lot of the High Focus artists to bring a more sarcastic set of ideals into their projects. Again one of the main focuses of Dike’s success is his light-hearted approach to sung vocals, as a lot of his more successful projects include an unusual collection of harmonized vocals.

One of the highlights of the tape is “He’s Getting Judged Like an Idiot,” where Dike talks about stereotyping people. Alongside this, the title track for the album “Return of the Twat” takes a similar format to “Hi I’m James” on his previous album, in the way that it is thoroughly entertaining, layered with different tangents within the lyricism. The other track which has an interesting twist is “Rapping over Silence”, in which Dike discusses his views on written rap battles as well as being angered at people rapping accapella.

Overall, it’s a very strong continuation on from Constant Dikestar. A similar level of quality, the entertainment value of Dike’s lyricism combined with more outstanding production work from behind the scenes makes for an album with plenty of replay value. Purchase it now from High Focus’s website

Dike is also promoting the release of the newest album with a one month UK tour in May, starting in Ipswich on the 1st and finishing in Brighton at Concorde 2 on the 25th. Dates for the tour can be found HERE
