A year goes quick as you get older, doesn’t it? It seems like just yesterday we wrote this article after we found out a new club night was hitting one of Brighton’s most criminally underused club spaces, upstairs at the Pavilion Tavern.
It’s been an exciting year for ATTIC founders Anders & Jack, as they hosted six club nights and welcomed eleven DJs from Brighton to Berlin. In August 2016, shortly after ATTIC hosted local collective Soul City, Brighton’s newest club, MONO, approached the pair and enquired about moving ATTIC to the newly refurbished club space under the arches on Brighton seafront.
It wasn’t an easy decision for them to make, says Anders, but it was one that they are now delighted they did; MONO is a no-nonsense, small, dark club with an incredible sound system and a 24-hour late license to boot. To date, every ATTIC has been busy until 6AM, with Anders even telling us that there was a packed dance floor that “didn’t want to leave” as the sun came up during ATTIC 004 with local legend and master selector, Nick The Record.
For Friday’s first birthday, Anders & Jack have invited Hesseltime, owner of record label and London based club night Tief, to play an extended 4 hour set across MONO’s custom built Funktion 1 system. Residents Øvre will be warming up the night, with 1BrightonFM regular David Loja closing the club. Anders & Jack have promised us there will be decorations in place for the birthday celebrations, including the first outing for their custom-built lightbox.
